Mark Nervir Duarte, a dedicated Grade 11 student at LNHS, exemplifies leadership as the team captain. He is more than just a figurehead; he acts as the cohesive force that binds the team during challenging moments. With his unwavering support and motivational spirit, he helps his teammates navigate difficulties and fosters a sense of unity, ensuring they remain resilient even when the going gets tough.
Playing for 3 years in the team, the LNHS Captain find joy in this sport, but he can also be strict and take the lead if needed.
This moment was especially evident during the 2024-2025 CSPC Sepak Takraw Exhibition Match against Lal-lo. As the game progressed, frustration began to build among his teammates due to their own errors, leading to an uncomfortable atmosphere on the court. Despite the rising tension and the pressure surrounding him, he remained calm and composed, demonstrating remarkable poise amidst the chaos. His ability to keep his cool not only steadied his own performance but also served to inspire his teammates to refocus and rally together as a unit.
“As a team captain, ako yung nag aawat sakanila kagaya kanina, nagkakainitan yung dalawang ka-regu ko kaya need ko magstep-in.” he stated
He began his journey in sepak takraw at a young age, inspired by a group of friends who share his passion for the sport and who now play alongside him on the same team. From those early days, he made a commitment to dedicate himself fully to the game, vowing to continue playing for as long as possible. His ultimate aspiration is to achieve his dream of becoming a professional sepak takraw player, showcasing his skills and love for the sport on a larger stage.
Supported by the people he loved most and his school providing the necessary space and money for the Sepak Takraw regu made it possible for them to compete in the Cagayan Provincial Athletic Association (CPAA), these acts further increase the possibility of his dream coming true, one step at the time.
